Bacteria. Our invisible friends, our invisible enemies. Some aid our digestion, others destroy our poisons. Still other "bugs" make us sick. Living inside and outside our bodies, natural bacteria are a fact of life. We have learned to live with them and they with us. Soldiers and sailors in action worry that even more dangerous bacteria are lurking in the environment. These are "killer" bacteria—the kind used as weapons. Such biological warfare agents are viewed by many to be as threatening to human life as nuclear weapons.
